Regional Climate Alliance Projects
The South Coast Alliance was chosen to participate in the Regional Climate Alliance Pilot Program an initiative under the Western Australian Climate Policy, delivered by WALGA in partnership with the Department of Water and Environment Regulation and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries in 2021.
The Program aimed to support Local Governments to take action on climate change, energy and sustainability through regional partnerships.
The Regional Climate Alliance Pilot Program provided vital expertise and funding to support regional Local Governments in advancing climate action aspirations in the face of increasing budgetary constraints and skill shortages. Thanks to this funding, the South Coast Alliance was able to deliver Your Business - Our Future Program and Future Proofing the South Coast Through Sustainable Built Design.

Your Business - Our Future Program
Your Business - Our Future Program, a pilot project that supported the business community in monitoring and reducing emissions and build awareness of emission sources in operations.
Businesses have an important role to play in emissions reduction. Businesses provide leadership to the local community and by delivering a sustainable economy they can grow with confidence.
South Coast Alliance invited applications from small businesses across the South Coast Alliance region to participate in this pilot project to have a complete assessment of their operations Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions undertaken. The seven businesses chosen to participate in Your Business - Our Future Program, were provided with customised recommendations for their business, together with the provision of support to develop an action plan to monitor and reduce emissions within their business into the future.

Future Proofing the South Coast through Sustainable Built Design
Future Proofing the South Coast Through Sustainable Built Design, a pilot project that assessed council buildings and facilities to identify cost-effective emissions reduction measures such as installing renewable energy or retrofitting buildings to increase energy efficiency.
The project has allowed South Coast Alliance member LGAs to accelerate the learning of know-how needed to fully capture the mitigation potential of retrofit actions in buildings. It is expected that the recommended improvement plan, focussed on large ecological footprint assets, will enable planned maintenance and upgrade works to be thoughtfully undertaken to improve operational environmental performance.
Findings from the project will help inform planned upgrades and maintenance for member LGAs from FY23/24.

South Coast Climate Dashboard
The South Coast Climate Dashboard is a comprehensive platform that consolidates crucial information about the local climate, its impact on the community, and actionable steps for positive climate action. Unlike conventional websites, it serves as a dynamic hub facilitating informed decisions and fostering meaningful collaboration.
The dashboard provides information on climate changes in the region, offering insights into shifts in temperature, rainfall patterns, and sea level rise. It also addresses the implications of these changes for agriculture, housing, and overall regional planning. Additionally, users can delve into the sources of emissions within the South Coast region, gaining insights into emission trajectories under different scenarios and discovering impactful actions to reduce emissions.
Categorising opportunities for action across various sectors, such as households, small businesses, agriculture, industry, transportation, land use, and ecosystems, the dashboard guides users on featured actions and presents case studies highlighting ongoing efforts in the region. It offers a user-friendly interface, inviting the community to explore, learn, and embark on a journey towards meaningful climate action.
The dashboard serves as a tool for collaboration, connection, and contribution to the regional effort to reduce climate emissions on the South Coast. Users can navigate through the menu based on their area of interest, whether it's household initiatives, small business solutions, or broader industry actions. By engaging with the dashboard, individuals are actively participating in a journey towards informed decision-making, meaningful collaboration, and a shared commitment to building a climate-resilient future for the lower Great Southern region.
Funded by Lotterywest and supported by collaborators such as Fitzgerald Biosphere Community Collective, Green Skills, Gondwana Link, Marine Energy Research Australia, Oyster Harbour Catchment Group, Stirling to Coast Farmers, Torbay Catchment Group, and Wilson Inlet Catchment Committee, the South Coast Climate Dashboard stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and shared dedication to a sustainable future.
